Disaster preparedness month

PENDER COUNTY - Here in Pender County, we know that hurricanes can be problematic disasters. Less likely or expected were the snow and ice storms we had this past winter. The Pender County Health Department wants to help you and your family to understand what disasters could happen in our community, and to know what to do to be safe and prepared.

Holly Ridge Medicine Drop

HOLLY RIDGE - The Holly Ridge Police Department will hold a Medicine Drop on Saturday, September 27th, 2014 at the Holly Ridge Volunteer Fire Department located at 109 Holly Street, Holly Ridge. The Medicine Drop will begin at 10:00 AM and end at 2:00 PM. Bring your expired and unwanted medicines for drop-off.

Pender school bond meetings this week (Trask tonight)

PENDER COUNTY - There will be three meetings held this week related to the upcoming schools bond referendum. In addition to a presentation that shows the need for a bond and its impact on each area of our county there will be an opportunity for interested community members to sign up to participate in committees to promote the bond. All meetings will begin at 6 PM.

New classes come to SC Parks and Rec.

SURF CITY – Need a hands-on health fix? Therapeutic Gentle Yoga has come to Surf City Community Center. It is especially for participants with chronic injuries, including neck, back or shoulder pain.  Therapeutic Yoga incorporates stretching, massage and relaxation techniques. The new class, held at 8:30 am on Friday mornings features Genie Hunter, a licensed occupational therapist.
